Is the wiring to the lights from the ballasts earthed through the bulbs as in plugged straight into the connector on the bulb? What bulbs do you have? D2S?

D2S Phillips bulbs yeah.

And yeah ballasts are earthed (plugged in) through the headlights.

I have a volvo and had loads of issues with burning out the wiper motor and intermittent firing of bulbs and ballasts. Turned out that the headlight on the drivers side is earthed at the same point as the wiper motor was which caused the issues above. I also had probs with the bulb out warning although its a canbus system i fitted. I eventually found out that i needed to earth the ballast (black wire) to a different point on the car (drilled a specific hole for it) and ran the wire from the black ballast output to the new earth point, leaving just the red wire plugged into the D2S adapter. Has been fine ever since.
I dont know if this will solve the issues youre having but with the ones youre having it could be worth a shot?

That is 100% worth having a crack at. I will look into it.

When you had random firing issues, was it either light?

Yeah, it was both lights at random intervals, then i earthed the drivers side as above and it sorted the drivers side but not the pass side. Did the same earthing mod on the pass side and it sorted that aswell.

Awesome I will give it a go.

Did you find spare connectors or just use spades?

Just used spade connectors and battery "hoop" terminal connectors on the other "earth" end

Not sure which part to earth

Input or output? Input comes from relay harness which is earthed. Out put goes to bulb.

Doing this from memory! The red and blue connect to the d2s adapter, yeah? The red is the positive to the bulb so earth the output on the ballast loom to a new earth point and don't connect it to the negative side of the d2s adapter

A couple of other questions, roughly how much did you pay or your ballasts kit and where was it from? Also are the kits when fully built up all tucked into the inside of the light unit or fixed into the engine bay in the wings/back of the light units?

I have two sets of ballasts. One off MJ here which are as pictured slim digital (i beleive) ballasts.

Then I got some "decent" Morimoto 35w ballasts from USA which are raved about but these are technically worse as they give more feedback than my others.

The ones I got off here, worked in my previous instalment just fine.

Ballasts are currently in and amongst the wiring behind the headlamps. Have not found a perma home for them yet and wont until they work!

Had a look at mine and i have H4 bulbs :-/

I have earthed the oem headlight connector that originally went to the bulb with some wire to the chassis though.
