What do I get as a cleaning noob?
Once the corsas on the road I want it looking funky fresh and well kept.
In the past I've used some wash and wax with a sponge, leathered, then auto glym super resin polish and some wax from work after that.
I want to get a clay bar, some decent shampoo? Wheel sealant? I have auto glym tyre shine that's good but any recommendations?
Also don't want to spend a fortune

I'd defiantly recommend a clay bar to remove all the rubbish from the paint work,
It all depends how much you want to spend on cleaning stuff as there are loads of different things you can buy
I've got the bilberry wheel cleaner it works great on my wheels

Dodo Juice Born to be Mild is a good shampoo.
Poorboys Wheel Sealant is a good wheel sealant.
I like Gtechniq T1 Tyre and Trim - finish lasts for ages. Best applied with a proper sponge applicator like the one Meguiar's do.
My go-to clay bar is Bilt-Hamber Regular Clay.
Stick with your Autoglym Super Resin polish - can't go wrong with that. If you like Autoglym stuff, try Autoglym HD Wax - pricey but it lasts forever and you get everything you need in the kit. For a cheaper wax look at Collinite 476S, but you'll need to factor in the cost of a couple of foam applicator pads and microfibre cloths for buffing on top.
Alternatively, try this Car-Lack polish / Collinite Wax combo - looks ace on black paint:

Oh, and bin the sponge - get a mitt, sponges trap dirt particles which you then rub all over the surface of your paint causing swirls.

Poorboys wheel sealant
Collinite 476s wax
Poorboys black hole glaze
I use these and they work very well.
I also currently use meguiars ultimate polish but find the autoglym SRP better. Both are rather dusty though.

Cant go wrong with anything evilrob has said. I use
Dodo juice born to be wild shampoo.
Poorboys wheel sealant.
Meguirs clay bar kit.
Auto finesse Wheel cleaner.
Auto finesse citrus bug and grime remover.
Poorboys black hole glaze.
Dodo juice purple haze wax( last time my car was waxed was after the machine polish and Autoglym hd wax was used).
Autoglym fast glass.
Autoglym bumper care which i use on the tyres too.
And finally i use Autosol on my exhaust tip.

Has anybody used the meguiars liquid wax?
I got this kit for £10 from halfords today

Not really bothered if the wax isn't that good because I can still use the other stuff that's in there

Bolt Hamber clay is good. Unlike other clays you don't need to use an expensive detailer for lube, just warm water with a drop of car shampoo in it does the job.

Meguiars Endurance for tyre gel if not already been mentioned.
For APC I buy the meguiars in 3.7l bottles from polished bliss and dilute it myself. Lasts forever and can be used on anything

Even quick detailer john? Like the stuff you'd use after rinsing to aid drying?
Our tap water is very chalky so wouldn't work. Your pure scottish highland stuff would do the trick though.

Not much more to it.
I hadn't considered the water quality elsewhere though.
Since my original meguiars QD that I got with my first clay kit ran out, I've always filled it up with a bit of soapy water.

your water would still be fine as a lube, it may leave residue though but id hope you'd be waxing or even washing after anyway

Wash it after claying so wouldnt matter if using water as lube for clay left any marks / residue

I often use QD to remove water stains on a warm day but for claying I always wash again afterwards to remove residue.

I'm not talking about claying here  simply a normal wash and dry.
I spray autoglym rapid detailer on the panels before drying with a microfibre, makes it far easier to dry.
