Obviously they'd be well maintained, but put to the test quite a bit. They'd of a had a few tramps in the back too but that's not an issue.

Depends on the car. Police spec tends to mean no creature comforts and cheaper trim so probably only if it was cheap and quick.

I never would!

Engines get thrashed from cold on a daily basis! Because if a call comes in, they jump in the car and shoot off quickly. Worst running conditions for an engine.

but they are never scrimped on, serviced on time without any costs being cut, cant see them constantly being ragged from cold and i am sure the engine gets a good run of motorway miles anyway.

probably far better then alot of cars owned by boy racers who do exactly the same ragging it but scrimp and cut corners with costs.

Yeah but they get bounced over speed bumps constantly, ragged everywhere, and poverty spec. Rather pay the extra.

This. Buying used cars is such a lottery a lot of the time. At least with it being ex police you can guarantee it will have a good service history, despite the fact it will have been driven hard.

My Vectra was ex-police. Was a decent car, just meant there was holes around the place where equipment had been fitted inside. As said, trim inside is fairly basic. They may get hammered, but they're well looked after.

Few years ago I would but not now, I've never seen so many police cars on the back of a truck broken down in the past 2 years. Corners have been cut recently. Never used to see broken down police cars on the back of trucks.

There's a V6 petrol Vectra fairly close to me on AutoTrader, I was asking myself this very question last night....

edit - it does quite clearly state ex-police pursuit vehicle, which made me think

Maybe not, but if something breaks then it's replaced, don't really see the problem myself. Vectra was a good car, just boring as fuck.

Friend of mine bought an ex police Octavia estate (the older one) was used for carrying guns apparently, had some custom thing in the boot that was for the gun cases or something.

Was a good car.

I know someone who used to repair them, im not saying its impossible to find one that is half decent, I am saying it is unlikely not to have been used as a workhorse with little or no care. Yes, they get serviced and some broken bits replaced. But that doesnt warrant the spec or lack of trim etc.

I would avoid.

Regular servicing doesnt cover items like ball joints, bushes, bearings, suspension, steering racks etc that will get smashed about driving over speed bumps fast
