New lense for canon eos! Mrs has had her dlsr for a little while now and she's only really used the standard lense but I'm thinking of getting her a better one! However I'm not paying 300 for a lense yet so what's cheapish but good! I'd like to use it mainly for car photography general pictures.

Would like to achieve something similar to these (although I know they are likely to be quite well edited)

You want a 50mm f1.8, hands down.

Easily the best budget lens out there.

Oh, and like you said, photos don't come off the camera like the ones you've shown. You'll need to develop them, to achieve that style.

What difference would the 50mm f1.8 lens have over the standard one that came with my Canon 1000D?

Faster, better in low light, better dof effects if you're into that. Bit more restricted than a standard kit zoom but better quality.

the £10-20 are likely to be FD fitment lenses, its the EF fitment that you'll want for your Canon EOS. Show us afew links to make sure

FD is the old fitment that Canon used for their film cameras back in the day before they changed their fitment and introduced autofocus

i believe so Christopher, i'm a Nikon man myself so i wouldn't want to say 100% but i certainly think that's right. I don't think Canon lenses have the same compatibility concerns as Nikons

Yes, those are correct, though the first one doesn't have the original lens cover, if you care about that sort of thing...

pick up a 2nd hand
tamron f:2.8 17-50mm
about £200

a bit more if you want image stabilisation.

great lens for the money.

and you know those are well edited photos of the corsa... your std lens can take those shots.. you think nneed to be good with LightRoom and PhotoShop.
