That's because it's the Daily Mail

I think it is related to the recent article in Auto Express.

See this in auto express last week. It was quite a 'radical' mainstream hatch at the time it was realised.

Two of the best of the best in my garage*

*However I disagree. It might be the best amongst the masses, but it's not the best. There are far more impressive vehicles around...

An Everyman successful car will always win a best car awards vs. a niche car. No need to get knickers in a twist over it.

And affordability being a major factor. A Veyron that goes wrong is no use to the regular Joe Bloggs

mk1 focus saved Ford IMO - The fact it was built in Germany helped them as the quality was so much better than before

People with Veyrons aren't too fussed about going online to fill out a survey about how great their car is, sad people who life a typical life the same as everyone elses will log on to say how amazing their ford focus is.

But surely its the best car for doing the job 99% of drivers want.

If a Puma or Mini had been voted number one you'd be wanking yourself silly over it!
