I have just been looking for a private plate, but i've also been using webuyanycar.com to see what car the plate I wanted is on.
For example:
L11 KET is on a Mitsubishi Warrior.
L12 KET is on a Merc.
I have found a plate doesn't come up on the DVLA website but doesn't come up on webuyanycar.com either. Does this mean the plate is on retention or something and is actually not on a car? Is it possible to contact the DVLA and ask if the plate is available? Or is it a case of, if the plate isn't on the DVLA website, then it's basically unavailable.
Cheers.

Google the plate, see if it comes up on any of the other plate sale sites, iirc if someone owns it dvla won't have it for sale, it will be listed on whatever website if any the owner is trying to sell it through

Get one that doesn't require you to space it illegally

The number plate will be spaced properly. It will be in the same format as the above ones. I have found one that I like and it looks fine with the space in the middle.

Maybe if you got L11 KET and put a naughty screw between the 11's but that is illegal and gay.

What's your last name? Might be easier to do something with that...
I'm still waiting for A17KEN.

This, it's a personal preference for me, I wouldn't have a private plate unless it was pretty much immediately obvious what it meant at a glance.

Yeah, beginning to think that, but tbh, with my name it's almost impossible finding anything that is even close.

What's it matter if others don't know what it says? That's why it's a "personalised plate"
Mine is this
My surname is HILDER, near enough for me.
People who know me know what it's meant to say, people who don't I don't care as they don't know my name anyway.

I came across mine by luck, looked for one with my initials which are AJB but they where all silly money. Then went for the first 3 letters of my surname (BON) and came across AN07 BON which in a way looks like my name.
Just keep looking about, I got mine off the dvla website.
