Hey i need to get new brakes! So do i go for performance brakes? eg EBC etc OR do i just get standard brakes ??

I have been told performance brakes are only good if you are going to use them on the track ??

Pls help !

a decent brake setup is a good investment!

if you want to go the astra gsi setup then have a look on migweb.co.uk or even scrapyards for the calipers, they cost around £40 for the pair

then just get a decent set of disc's & pads - u cant go wrong with pagid

slotted as in grooved? these are a waste of time unless you go on a lot of track days. basically they just eat brake pads as the main idea of the slots/grooves is to skim the top layer of the pad so that you dont have any glazing

cross-drilled is better for the road as these help disappate heat more effectivily

Thx for the advise from all, as a person who is new to mods on brakes etc. What would you all recommend? Is it not easier just to get new discs etc, than changing to a different cars brakes? Not much into the lingo ie calipers etc..... ???

the reason behind you brakes shuddering is either warped disc's or a partially seized caliper on one side.

stay away from EBC pads, people think greenstuff pads are the dogs bollox because they last 75% longer than std and give off little, or no brake dust. when in fact they are kevlar based & therefore eat disc's!

get a set of pagid fast road pads, and a good set of cross-drilled disc's. off the top of my head, i dont know of any companies that do cross-drilled only disc's. speak to pvd and maybe they might be able to give you details.

dunno about vauxhall high performance pads, never heard tell of them before - best i idea would be to ring then and just ask!!

I would agree with Gambit and just change the discs. I have corsa sport and the brakes are a hell of an improvment on those on lower models.

If you do want to upgrade these people sell cross drilled only discs and they're the cheapest

True but also the pistons in the calipers are bigger and are much better than the Corsa GSi ones.

Hey fellas

I've got a GSi with basically standard brakes, apart from slotted (grooved) front rotors. Can I simply take off my Corsa GSi calipers and replace them straight up with Astra GSi ones?

i.e. Do they bolt straight on?

Thanks

Just get standard disks and pads, they are very cheap. The disks you need are 256mm * 24mm.

Also remember to renew the copper washers when you swap the calipers over and give the sliders a a greasing.

Perhaps get new caliper mounting bolts (about £1.30 each).
