Around ten thousand people are expected to attend the country’s biggest modified car event at Crail Raceway this Sunday (May 11th 2003), where the UK’s best selling car magazine, Max Power, will pick Scotland’s top cars to take part in the ‘Max Power Live’ show at Birmingham, later in the summer.
Last year’s Crail Max Power event pulled in over six thousand visitors to Fife from all over the UK, with predictions that numbers may exceed ten thousand this year, as attendance figures for 2003 at the site are up by 30% on last season.
The Crail Raceway event is best known for its ¼ mile drag strip that takes place on the mile long runways of the 200 acre, WWII air base. However at this special event spectators can also enjoy, for the first time at Crail, the Russ Swift and John Clark Tayside BMW Mini Stunt Show, pulling off incredible two wheeled mini tricks and pinpoint accurate driving skills.
Meanwhile, the ‘Wild Child’ 1500 bhp monster truck, which appeared in April, will be returning to Scotland for more gigantic jumps and car crushing. Also appearing will be Radio Tay, performing a live broadcast from the event with give aways and prizes.
For the first time at Crail, visitors can put their car on the mobile 4-wheel drive, DYNO, a rolling road that measures output in break horsepower, with prizes, supplied by Virtual Reality Bodystyling and Middlehurst Turbos.
A special 5000 square foot tented village will be erected for the event and will hold a number of trade and retail stands with more directly outside. Equinox, live DJ, will be placed at the drifting oval to oversee the burnout competitions and late night cruise action.
This year Crail Raceway will be giving away a car. Attendees will get the chance to win a totally unique, professionally modified; Vauxhall Corsa from Fiskens of Forfar, which will be stripped and transformed at the Max Power event. Modifications will include - Full Car Zone Body Kit, full window tint by West Lothian Auto Tint; respray by R.D.Finishing; Ashley exhaust system; Pipercross induction kit; Wolfrace 17 inch alloys; AVO spring lowering kit; Head unit and speaker system; and Cobra race seats. Virtual Reality Bodystyling of Perth will undertake all the modifications.
To win the car, which will be given away at the last Thrash/Cruise at the end of the season, visitors must fill in the back of their entrance tickets with their contact details. < From Max Power onwards tickets will be available at every event. Tickets should be handed in at the entry box or the start box on leaving.
The only requirements to take part at Crail are a valid UK driving licence, £10 for admission and a £15 signing-on fee, which entitles participants to unlimited runs. At the end of the day personal performance print-outs showing reaction times to the start lights, 60', 1/4 mile times, and top speed will be given out – personal times can also be easily accessed through www.crailraceway.co.uk
