Who's been? Off there next weekend for a few days.

Any recommendations of things to do or places to eat/drink?

So far I've booked dinner here:

http://www.sofitel-vienna-stephansdom.com/en/le-loft-restaurant.html

We are staying at the Ritz Carlton, so ideally stuff not too far from there.

Thanks!

Yeah I went there last Summer, amazing city - really really nice!

That Sofitel is very nice. Make sure you go to the Hotel Sascher for some real Sascher Torte

The Palaces are cool (hofburg and schonnbrunn) as is the river/canal-side. The Stadt Opera Haus is worth a trip if youre there with a bird and def try to get to the Hundertwasserhaus

Girls love the Spanish horses too

Oh yeah and climb stephansdom

doubly oh yeah, if the amusement park (prater) is still open then thats quite quaint too

City's nothing special, people are generally rude fuckwits too.

Check out the Praterinsel with the Ferris Wheel and Hundertwasser house if you absolutely have to go.

Eat a giant schnitzel here: http://www.figlmueller.at/en/ That was the nicest part of our visit.

so you like the place then ash?

how do you feel about Munich Ash, worth a visit? I've always fancied a trip there for some reason, wouldn't mind a daytrip to Dachau and Berchtesgaden too and Munich seems like the sensible place to go

Vienna isnt my favourite place in the world, no.

Munich on the other hand is lovely. Big city but still with a cosy atmosphere, lots of open spaces, interesting things to see and do. Lots of great food and drink places too.

Dachau is a short train journey away, Berchtesgaden is a couple of hours. If you want to go to the Eagle's Nest, then I'd rent a car and drive there. With public transport it'd take even longer I imagine.

As Orrbo says, the surfers in the English Garden are cool, BMW Welt is good too, As is the Audi Forum an hour up the road in Ingolstadt.

Oh, flights are also cheaper now as Oktoberfest is over for this year. I always fly from Manchester with Easyjet.

Fantastic, Munich might be my next little trip away, off to Prague in afew weeks so maybe in the new year. It's pretty cheap to go too which is nice. That was also my thinking regarding Berchtesgaden, it was the Eagle's nest I was after visiting also fancy a trip to Neuschwanstein to see the castle I just don't know if it's worth 4 hours of driving for :/ although driving through beautiful countryside can't be a bad thing.

I would expect some u2us in the future on the subject ash

Sorry for thread hijacking

Yep, no problem. Neuschwanstein is worth seeing, you need a day for it though including travel time. There's so much to see around here, you'll need at least a week to fit it all in.
