Was in my veedub T4 tonight, driving up north. Had a weird noise started, thought i'd thrown a driveshaft. Didn't want to drive any further so I called the AA. I checked all the wheels by hand thinking it might have been a wheel bearing possibly, none of the wheels budged. AA bloke jacked the van up and all 5 wheel nuts were seriously loose, 10 more miles and the wheel would have been off.

I've done 800 miles since the wheel was last off with no problems Is this unusual or could someone have maybe tried to nick my wheels/s?

They have locking wheel nuts and that was loose too.

Were all wheels the same. Chances are it just wasnt torqued up correctly when the wheel was last off and they have gradually worked looser.

Just one was loose. I'm amazed I did 800 miles without it coming loose, then it went from being fine to almost falling off in 25 miles.

I'm pretty sure evolution is trying to kill you. How you keep defying it is beyond me

Why the fuck would you knowingly drive about with half the amount of required wheel bolts?

Just take the other two out. Gravity will hold it anyway. Bolts are only for show.

AA bloke checked everything including tapers, everything fine. I'm still not driving it, back in the Beemer for the weekend.

know a lad that had his car seized by police for having 2 wheel bolts missing as they deemed it unsafe to drive even a mile
he also got points for dangerous driving

I had one wheel bolt missing from each wheel in the mini. Didn't bother me really.
I've replaced them now as it looked gash.

Have the wheels be painted? When the seat is painted it can loosen the bolts, mine did it away on my old Integra after having them re-furbed. But I'd say they weren't tight enough in the first place.

Jesus Tiger this happend to me literally yesterday Heard knocking noise on the way home from work from my NSF wheel. I've got a really slow puncture so thought it was that even though i'd recently pumped it up.

Noise got louder and louder so I pulled over and the tyres were fine like you I thought it was the shaft so nursed it home as I was really close. Popped it on the ramps but couldn't see anything! Dropped it down again scratching my head so grabbed my brace and went to check the nuts.....2 were fucking missing and the other 3 literally span using just my fingers on the socket on the other front wheel all the bolts were properly loose but still there. Backs were solid.

Really shocked me though and not had it on any of the 30 cars I've owned!
