I'm fairly sure my mums got a shit load of bats in her loft, can here them in the loft space on the second floor, and occasionally hear plaster falling down the cavity walls. It's a new house, 10 years old and can here them on the roof tile clips. The main problem is the room closest to the bats has a lot of flies in it now, probably from the bat shit or maybe a dead bat or two.
Can anything be done or are they protected to the point that they are safe as fuck up there?

Are you sure it's not mice? I don't know for sure, but I think bats are protected, once they're in, it's difficult to get rid of them (but don't quote me on that).

What do bats feed on across here? I remember watching a program about bats that were living in some abandoned small building and when a team went in the walls and floor were covered in blood, obviously because they drink blood.

If you have bats, don't tell a soul and do whatever it takes to get rid of them. Bats are a fucking nightmare of red tape!

Have to wait until they leave. Then block up their entrance I think they move out in a seasonal fashion. So have to do it at the correct time of year.

A guy on grand designs had a problem with bats. Think it cost him a bomb to sort it out.
DO NOT TELL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH or any of those tosser people.

Not sure why Environmental Health would care?
More like Natural England and Ecologists.
But as said, keep it quiet and sort your own way, but if caught be prepared to be bum raped.

Get a net. Catch them. Take them all round to someones house you don't like. Post through letterbox. No more bat problem.
