Currently driving an Audi TT but in a moment of madness, decided to go for the 2.0 TFSI Quattro rather than a diesel, despite doing 20k miles per year.

As expected, it is proving too expensive to run so I am looking to change to a diesel.

I was initially looking at the TT TDI so that will naturally come into the equation but I fancy a change having already had a TT and quite like the look of the 1 series coupe.

Probably looking at a 118d or 120d, really like the look of this one I have found:

Any opinions of them of experiences of them?

Not worth looking at a new 2 series?

I suspect price difference would be massive?

I wasn't even aware of the new 2 series until someone highlighted it on anther forum

I'm no expert but didn't the 320D have snapped chain issues?

Was on watchdog I think

According to pistonheads, the 220d will come in at £25865. I managed 5k discount on my new 1 series without even trying, wouldn't be far off if they did you a good deal.

2 series will just be out so discounts won't be the same.

I think the 1 series coupe looks miles better than the hatchback. 1 series hatch was nice to drive.

Lease deals might be subsidised though John if they are keen to get them out there.

1series is great, that looks nice. I would never buy one for £20k though.

Think they're great. Love them in white although they only seem to come in that colour

Couple of small things I didn't like about the interior of the hatch I drove:

The dash and dials in general are very very boring, especially compared to a lot of other cheaper cars on the market. The Kia C'eed for instance has a very attractive dash and dials in my opinion.

And also the one I drove had the built in sat nav and it looked so out of place. A real after though bolt on bit of kit that just didn't fit in at all. Really let it down.

The centre arm rest and door arm rest were perfect heights for resting your arms when cruising along and the seat was very very comfortable.

All in all a really nice car to drive in terms of performance and comfort, just a boring place to sit.

Seems to be one of the cheapest about in spec I want (colour, auto, m sport, diesel, plenty of warranty left, low mileage, etc)

My friend has a 120D

It drives lovely. Looks tip top. Seats are nice. Interior does look boring and feels very plasticy and cheap.

1 series coupe is the best looking car BMW have made apart from the e46.

great cars

118, 120 and 123 are variants of the same engine so could get timing chain issue on any. More likely on pre 2009 cars

I ran my 120D for 75k with no issues and the E90 is currently on 70k with no issues

Great cars and drive great

Watch out for cars with part leather as its not true leather and prone to cracking/ripping - better with full leather

I really like them, shocking that the 1 Series hatch is essentially the same car.
