Fairly low mileage for a MK4 GT TDi.

Rust inside door along sill.
Coil springs. (same on all cars now)
Rust on front arches.

I owned mine almost 4 years, coil spring, engine mount, clutch and front arches were main things I changed.

Mine was remapped and 125k miles though.

look at the headliner up in the back passenger corner, if there are any wet marks its probably the rear wash pipe split and leaking, common fault.

make sure all the doors lock and unlock with the fob, the door modules can fail meaning you cant unlock or even open some of the doors.

if its got climatronic fitted get it up to temperature on the test drive have it blowing hot then whack it on cold and see if it continues to blow hot, mine did when i bought it and its a seized flap or something in the system that stops it switching onto cold.

if it starts beeping saying driver door open, or boot lid open its water damage on the boot sensor, again mine did this when i bought it, with the engine running open the boot, make sure the dash shows it being open as a lot of them just end up having the boot sensor unplugged to stop the fault.

Electrics and sensor gremlins. My missus had one before the disco and it was a cracking car, went well and returned 50+mpg-her's was the 130 too, silver 3dr with recaro (iirc) black leather.

The only real issue it had was the alarm and central locking constantly having an issue and the car locking itself wether the doors had been opened or not so you could never risk leaving the keys inside it if you we're say washing it or working on it as it didn't matter if the engine was running or not, it would randomly lock itself!

Aside from that, it had done 140k and had no other issues.

Windows falling into the door and never coming out again.

Check all suspension components as that's where the 100k will show wear first, not the engine

Open the door, take a step back, wait a second, walk back to the door and close it. Make sure it sounds like a golf.

Glad to hear, I had an e-mail from Colin (owner before me) saying his neighbours mate had just bought a mk4, showed him a photo and it was same one. Small world.

all the suspension/wishbone bushes go pretty easy and they knock so its pretty easy to spot. gearbox 'dogbone' mount bushes go too making gear changes slack due to engine movement.

make sure to warm it up properly and drive it hard on test drive make sure it doesnt go into limp, this would obviously indicate and issue with either a sensor/turbo. EGR faults/clogged turbo vanes are common

everything else is pretty much mentioned, front arches etc. If its not had a clutch it will want one soon id imagine

Ive owned one for two years, bought it on 85k now on 116k and ive replaced the following

turbo
wishbones
axel bushes
various sensors
2 sets of topmounts
water pump
2 abs sensors
egr valve

Think thats it although its currently in bits on my drive waiting for another turbo to be fitted.

When its working its a great car, pull well, see 50+mpg etc

So id check to see when/if its had a turbo fitted as well as when the clutch and dual mass was done.

Always liked these, they're getting a bit old hat now though - very few with decent mileage.

I bought my MK4 GT TDI PD130 in Feb on 99k for £2450 with FSH and 12month MOT. Front arms are knocking well, rear wiper washer doesn't work but apart from them 2 issues its spot on to be honest.
