Most important thing is that it's now got a fucking cup holder! Such a pain in the neck in the Mk1 not having one.

I liked the one where the clocks were in the boot with a camera facing them

Fear's, wasn't it?
Don't know about that TT dash, really. Why would you need to look at a map there, all the time?
Dash looks better in the CR-Z, imo...

Didn't Volvo do an LCD dash a year or two ago?

I don't think you need to look at it all the time but you can just glance at it like you would speedo without having to view speedo, then sat nav which is two operations and one involves turning your neck which means less time looking at the road.
Porsche do the same, as do Ferrari Al Brit on a more basic/small level.

And I am shocked that the Mercedes didn't do this first.

WANTZ...
Whens it coming on the S3/S4/SQ5 models
As Jambo said, looking down at a sat nav system takes your eyes off the road for longer. Being where the dials are makes it easier for quick looking.
Thats the nark on our S3, the sat navs too low. Its better on the newer ones, it pops up.
As for Mercades, have you seen the dashes on the new smaller ones. They are like a crappy touchpad, they look so nasty and ruins the dash. They have actually gone backwards imo

Says the map is there when in "infotainment" mode... you can have it without, when the clocks would be bigger on the screen, presumably just with a black background.

Whole dash looks pretty nice.
About time everything had big LCD displays for everything, either as standard or at a low cost. Charging 2k for a rubbish sat nav can't go on for much longer given the abundance of cheap displays on just about everything else.

What John said.
Theres an article in Autocar this week saying a company is pioneering iPad app with all dashboard functions on. removing the need for all hardware. This is the kind of thing that needs doing. Tesla have started it off already, looks fantastic.

iOS is the wrong platform to be running a car on. Andriod would be better
