So with getting mixed reviews on the diesel Insignia I am throwing my net a bit wider.

Anyone have any real world opinions on the 2.2 diesel Accord? Build quality, comfort (i have major back problems and ideally want a car with heated seats, hard to find here in ireland), etc etc

I drive a 2.2 iDTEC engined Honda, its great on fuel and reasonably pokey, but they sound like a bucket of spanners thrown into a cave..

Apparently the earlier CDTI ones aren't worth a wank though?

I've seen em do 200,000 in 3 years and were running sweet as a nut, regularly serviced and stuff and they last forever and are cheap fixers.

Was that with heated seats or without? I reckon that can make all the difference.

I spent 3 hrs driving a mates mk1 tt around. My back started to hurt pretty quickly, till i fired up the heated seats and was grand for the entire trip after that!

Just fit heated seats to whatever you have now then? Won't a 2.2 rape you for tax as well?

I want to get rid of what I have now, its not just about heated seats. Astra SRI 150 which I have owned for nearly 5 years and which is racing towards 215k miles and starting to cost me money I would rather put towards a newer car.
no, anything after 2008 is based on emissions, so even a 2.2 accord is half what I am paying on the Astra which is cc based (€390 compared to €790!!)

This is gotten my interest too, tax is only €280 http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2009-toyota-avensis-t4-d-4d/6248240

Fair enough

Only €290 I forgot about the Irish emissions change over though.

If you want something comfy surely a C class would be good?

€290 is what, £240? and we pay pretty high petrol tax too...

i doubt a C class will fall inside my budget? but then again I havent looked at them.

I should really just change this to the usual "what new car thread"!!!

Any opinions on the Honda Civic 2.2 i-CTDi SE 5 Dr Hatch? Whats the boot space like compared to the Astra H 5 door?

9-5 Aero is 260bhp, I'd still love one of them. Most are advertised for about 4x what I'd pay for one.

Saab 9-5 was one of the most awful drives I've ever had - I'd guess the 9-3 would be similar.

I thought they were totally disconnected to drive; auto box was terrible and the only way I can describe the drive was if you imagine sitting on a giant exercise ball and then try to corner, it would be wobbly and all over the place.
