oh and the b4494 isn't bad either, which almost runs parallel to the A338

I was just about say about the B4494.

I tend to go from Newbury up to your way, then left at the cross roads back to Hungerford, you can take it the 4000 if you wanted to make it a loop.

I just love view as you cross the ridgeway on the 4494.

I cycle this route lots - good fun on a bike too .... getting close to 50mph on the road bike on one of the hills
