Morning, thinking of changing the mondeo st and I have been looking at the E46 touring 320d's...

Found what looks to be a nice one, grey with the m sport kit mv alloys etc.

It's done 117,000 with full service history and is an auto. What are the auto boxes like on bmw's ? I always thought they were pretty bulletproof but could be wrong.

Anything else common for going on these engines ? I heard the turbos can be an issue ?

Any advise would be great

Subframe's are hassle on these as well then ?

I've a 330d touring with 190k and it's still going strong (touch wood).

As mentioned, swirl flaps are known for breaking up and being forced into the engine causing severe damage. These are easily removed if you have a basic tool kit.

Replace the crank case breather to a 'vortex' style one. This prevent the issue with turbo's giving up.
