I'm in the middle of replacing my turbo on my 2006 E90 320d m sport.

I know I need to prime the turbo and turn the engine over a few times before connecting the oil feed. However I dont know how to crank the engine (push button start) without it starting

Any ideas from you knowledgeable chaps?

Unplug the crank sensor?

Why do you need to crank it before starting? Just prime it with an oil can and start it up :/

It says on th eonline guide and in the instructions supplied with the turbo that the engine should be cranked first before connecting the oil feed pipe

In all the turbos ive fitted, ive never bothered with that, but if the instructions state it, you best do it

But I don't know why you would do it before connecting the oil feed, surely the idea is to get some oil to the turbo

Crank it over by hand (without ignition on )using a ratchet on the bottom pulley

I'm going to pretend you lot are being sarcastic / silly... It's a diesel... No spark plugs or coil pack.

My suggestions:
Unplug the injectors if they are solenoid type ones
Remove the fuse for the fuel pump and run until it conks out then crank

The later is not the best option as there is always the possibility that you can damage the rotary diesel pump

Its a diesel it wont have a coilpack. I think its to make sure that the oil is flowing then connect up the turbo, which has been primed with oil and away you go

When we fitted mine we just squirted oil into the turbo.

Just put abit of oil in the turbo and fire it up. I've never cranked a engine over to fill the feed pipe before?

Prime turbo. Fire it up.
