How does this work? Cars driven faultless for ages. Come to reverse off drive and reverse is first.

What's happened?

It'll have slipped round where it clamps on to the knurled shaft. There is a proper method (which I can't remember) but you can probably just loosen it off and use a bit of trial and error.

Put in neutral, loosen off shaft that goes into box, get a mate to move gear stick back to the middle, tighten back up. Repeat if nessesary.

You slack it off, then put a drill bit through the holes in the selector in the car under the gator and a drill bit in the hole in the selector turret (forget which size, but 4mm of 5mm rings a bell) and then tighten it up again. I'm sure there's a bit in the FAQ section on here with better instructions than that.

The nylon bush on the linkage at the bulkhead side will have popped off. Cheap as chips from vauxhall

Ok, found the problem.

Tried a bit of glue to prove it as the break looked dirty and not fresh. Mint, every gear perfectly.

Now, next question. How the hell does it come apart?..

Been years since I took one apart, but I think the pins are held in place with E clips. If you remove the clips then the pins will pull out.
