Fkin bs. Called aa about European cover, says they will tow back the vehicle to home, up to a maximum of cars value.
So my car standard is probably around 500 market value. So they give me £500 worth if towing before I start vbeing charged:

If I brake down far from home as far away as possible (Germany) I asked them how much would the cost be, and they can't quote it....

So for example, if cost 2k to tow home I have to pay 1500£.

Useless company, as they can't tell me how much worst Case scenario would cost.

Who are you with? I'm driving to the Nurburgring from England

Do you have an agreed valuation insurance policy? If so, use that as the basis for value. In fairness to the AA et al, there is no point having the hassle of towing something back which simply isn't worth it, sentimental value or otherwise.

My friend's jacked up, go anywhere Mitsubishi Delica is still in a French Renault garage after he decided not to take cover out and then to attempt to strip the clutch down on the driveway of our chalet. That was 3/4 months ago - the benefit is that the French garage has kept him up to date and the repair has worked out cheaper than it would have in the UK. He is going to France for work soon and is bringing it back as part of the trip.

That aside, I normally take out the cover offered by Eurotunnel as its usually cheaper for what I use it for, you'd need to check about the 'Ring though.

They did mention going to a garage, but it's quite a custom car/build now. I know for a fact a lot
Of garages would simply not get involved in non standard cars

The one the Delica is at is a Renault garage but it is a Japanese import with JDM parts; a 4" lift kit and various other oddities and they've been really helpful to him even though none of the parts have been sourced in France and they're charging him no storage.

Generation, only company worth entertaining in your situation is ADAC. I'm sure you will ignore me and VRS and just moan about it.

Cover for that corsa is a good idea, not a chance in a million years it's making it there and back without breaking.

It's already driven more than that without issues.. I don't really know how this bandwagon started, it's only broken once since it's been built over a year ago, and that was a loose bolt on the wastegate..

(There's the reaction you were wanting)

I seem to remember them talking about £104 when I binned my Corsa at Oulton Park, which was 28 miles from home at the time, so if those maths are anything to go by they'll get you out of Germany but the ferry's likely to be out of reach.

Good comparison mike, I won't Nother with aa then.

People recommending adac, did you have to claim? I've read a bit on google about them, just mostly people saying they didn't have to claim in Europe, but they were great in the uk

I used Adac when my mates car broke down on the way home from Germany,

It seems they wait to have a few vehicles then bring them over in a job lot, ours came on a car transporter with 3 other cars and two motorbikes on it about 3 weeks after we got back, constantly kept updated.

Would use them again with out a doubt

I use to renew my membership every year when I was going to the Ring every year. Never wanted to use my cover and on one trip I had to as I blew up the Astra while on track.

When the marshalls stopped for me I told them I was an ADAC member and I wanted to be picked up by Bongard (one of the recovery firms that work the ring, I think there is 2?) and he took me and the car back to their workshop in Adenau, then after some help from friends such as Lee, we told ADAC that my car had suffered a failure and the only way to fix it was using specialise parts from the UK for the supercharger lol.

I think later that day the car was loaded on a trailer and arrived in the UK a week later, you have to give them an address of a garage to deliver the car so it went to a local land rover place near me, I then promptly got it moved to mine.

While I was in Germany ADAC kept in contact with me and arranged for a hire car to be picked up from Bonn as part of the service, all I had to do was fuel it. I then dropped it off at Calais and got on the ferry as a passenger and had to arrange my own hire car while in the UK to get home. I'm pretty sure I could of claimed the £40 for the UK car hire but I never did in the end. I've heard stories of people getting plane tickets and all sorts.

edit 2 - With old cars you can have a problem where they look at book value and will offer you money instead of towing it home, Lee had this problem with his Nova and they offered him a book value that was less then one of the bucket seats in the car I think. They later upped the offer to the same value of his exhaust system iirc which didn't help matters - he had to get his towed home privately in the end which can be expensive (£500-1000?)

I think my Astra got away with it because it of the specialist parts BS we gave them, maybe we just got lucky? I dunno.

Also worth noting that once you have ADAC (the 80 odd quid cover) you can use them in the UK too, they just contact the AA and send them to your location

Maybe its something they just do local to the Ring, you gotta remember you need cover for getting there and back more importantly! On the trip I had the hire car another friend of ours had his car go kaput on the way out of Germany while on the motorways, could of been Belgium but I can't remember. Anyway he got picked up by the local recovery firm to the area, they then had someone relay him to Calais, then someone else was waiting for him by the ferry dock to relay him back home. All by ADAC as far as I know, his car was a fucking WELL OLD Manta.

And if all else fails you can get a lift home from a mate and go back another weekend to pick it up yourself - Birchieboy recently did the same thing, going back the weekend after with a dolly.

There are private firms that will quote you a recovery price home too - http://www.lizardlogistics.com/page2.htm

And there are little places around the area that would be happy to store your car for a small price/free, depending if its outside or inside or something? Hotel/B&B Burgstube in Nurburg village have space for cars, Michaela at Foxhole hotel can always help in that regards.
