Reading internet saying that the original 225 is poor and the Trophy/Cup is the only one to go for? They are out of my budget unfortunately so hoping its just internet rumour?

If you smoke cigarettes in the car, i wouldn't bother with a Megane.

Cup chassis is lower and stiffer. But the 225 is an alright car.

225's have so many problems. Everything from window regs to balljoints and other such stuff.
Balljoints, theres going to be a exchange set/fix your set (or something!) soon, which basically makes them a simple serviceable part (problem is due to renault fitting them up side down so the grease leaks out)
Brilliant cars when they work though.

Window regs affect 225 phase 1 all the way to r26rs

Alex, anymore info on that? 197 has same setup and only Aaron's Autos in Leeds currently offer the replacement ball joint rather than whole hub carrier option

Unfortunately its a specialist, and hes still working on it. Theory is good though!
I hope he can sort it asap, as the whole replacement is bloody expensive.

400 for lower part of hub same for upper, then fitting
Aaron's autos do it for 250 all in so that's an option

If it's the same as the r26, bearings can be bought for less than 100 and a days labour diy. Bottom ball joints you can now buy replacements on eBay and the scenic ball joints fit.

These the fat arse ones? All fat arses suffer from the same stupid leaks that fry the window regulators in all the windows. There are replacements on ebay for £20 but it's a faff fitting them when it's something so simple that shouldnt break!
My ph2.5 (I think?) estate has to have the spare wheel well vaxxed out twice a year due to water leakage behind the boot carpet and it all gathers in there, can hear it sloshing about when you turn round corners

Window regs are pretty common. And are around £250 from Renault. Although apparently my mate who had one took his to renault and only paid £80 fitted as it's such a common problem renault contribute to it.

I think that only applies to cars within a certain age bracket.

Not that I am aware of, unless it's one of those removable ones like I had on my Astra and the previous owner has kept the attachable tow bar.
Wouldn't explain it leaking in above where the towbar would be fitted though, or are you insinuating I should make a few aftermarket drainage points?

Had a few leak where Towbar fitters haven't sealed the end of the Chassis legs properly, can cause the issue you have. The factory crash beam has foam pads which seal the ends, I guess these could fall apart too.
