lol at getting away with that. Sure someone else on here will have email routed to broadband connection with no static IP using this.

If you're routing email to a dynamic IP you deserve some downtime.

Normally small customers locked in BT home broadband contracts with no option of a static IP.
Normally also got some spooling service in place for occasions like this.
I agree though.

This is the first I've heard of this! Thanks for the heads up. Use a dynamic DNS name to access my usenet applications. Looks like I'll need to change the hostname now.

FFS I've got two customers who use standard ADSL with No-IP, no wonder they're addresses aren't resolving. FFFFFFSSSSSSS ARGGGGHHHH

I'd like to add that I'm only using no-ip for VPN access... no Exchange server

This bit in their "about" made me laugh:
"Our robust Anycast Network with points of presence in 18 different worldclass facilities across the globe guarantees our 100% Uptime, because let’s face it, there are no upsides to downtime"

Got a customer who has a server in once place then two people who often work from home so got logmein pro for the two laptops. Both of them are 50 odd miles away so £50 a year to access two laptops in a reliable way was a no brainer. Use VPN and RDP for the server

That's a load of bollocks. If you upgrade to business BT will do it if you are in a home contract or not. I've done this recently.
Also, stop being a tight cunt running a business off a home broadband connection.

Get them on Google Apps and tell them to stop messing around!

No point going to Google Apps when the internet connection is bad and they have some bit of database software that needs a server to run anyway.
Everything online = no work when internet goes down.
We've got another client who uses Apps with the outlook connector but it's not quite as good as Exchange. If everyone used the web interface and had great internet, it would be perfect.
Outlook and bad internet connections are par for the course though.

Yeah that outlook connector is rubbish. Used to be alright when they allowed Exchange ActivSync

It's a load of crap (the connector always has been) and tbh, in terms of mail, i can't see why you'd choose Google Apps considering Office 365/Exchange Online is so cheap.

And there was me thinking that no Outlook was a positive. Calendar and GMail work offline anyway.
365 is a good option too - my point was that self hosted email sucks.

Couldn't agree more for SMB situations; it does have it's place though.

I use Apps with Thunderbird and Mac Mail and it works fine. IMAP means you have local copies of all your mails so offline or not it doesn't matter.
