You wake up in the middle of a field, you have no idea where you are and the stuff growing in the field is too high to see over (even if you jump) you have a watch, a compass and a ball of string.
How do you find the quickest way out of the field?

Is it a fake watch or a genuine one?

Follow North on the compass, it's only a field, you will eventually get out . . .

Walk perfectly straight in one direction until you're out.. simples.

But if the field is a rectangle shape and is 1 mile wide by 10 miles long, you could end up walking 5 miles and not half a mile.

Yea, but the field is surrounded by magnetic rocks

Pull up whatever is in the floor and make something to stand on.
Depending on how high the stuff is just keep piling it up until you can see over the top.

If ive woken up in the middle of the field then i probably had a good night and therefore a terrible hangover so id go back to sleep..
If i had not been found by the time i woke up id follow the path of broken plants and be on my merry way.

Use the string as 'beadcrumbs' to get back to middle, then march in a number of directions using the compass until to reach the edge and note the time taken. Do this enough times and you'll plot the field and be able to find the quickest exit.
Alternatively, pick a direction and run

Never sure with 3cm if it's a genuine riddle or a riddle riddle.
You could walk in a straight line using any of the 3 items you had, but you could probably fairly reliably walk in a straight line using the sun.
The field could be any size and shape so I've not yet thought of a benefit to walking in a certain direction, which you could again probably work out using all 3 items, given enough time.

If you measure the time and distance (using the string) then you can plot the field and in turn find the quickest route out.
Could also use trigonometry.
Edit - Curious to know what the answer is, although my Google-fu couldn't find anything

I made it up, its not on google.
Quickest way would be just run out the field, no point messing about with anything. Didn't ask for the shortest route, just the quickest way.

I hadn't read the whole thing obviously.
I was thinking about getting out of the field quickest instead of spending time finding the quickest method of getting out of the field.

Not what you asked; you said -

Which indicates there's a form of measurement involved, so running straight out wouldn't be correct.
If you said "What's the quickest way out" then yes, you could argue that running in one constant direction until you reached the edge of the field is the quickest method.
Either way, F- and a for not thinking it through 3CM.

Lol. I don't mind if people what to work it out. Could be interesting. I knew it was a fail as soon as someone said the field could be 1m x 10m and the middle isn't equal distance from the edge.
