Thread on all the golf R owners 'kills' so far, some fast modded motors no doubt but it seems mildly modded ones and even standard ones can beat M4's, C63's, E60 and F10 M5's and even 500 bhp poker turbos off the line.
My personal favourite is the video of the bloke 'keeping up with a lambo' I'll let you be the judge of that one lol

Was 1 of these up at Crail a few weeks back and it was proper flying. Doing low 13s (as in 13.1 etc) in the wet. It was a rocket. Doing quicker times than a spanking new 911 and a couple of big power Evo's etc.
Off the line it was very impressive, hooking up in the wet like a good 4wd car does in the dry.

I've wiped the smile off a few golf gtd drivers faces. They seem to think they have a fast VW.

These things are always bullshit.
My Fabia has 'killed' a Maserati.
Until he dropped a few gears and left me.
They also take on standard cars. Never see someone killing a tuned GTR!!
How many of them have also actually had a proper race against the other driver, not just beat him off the lights, when in fact he was only going to the shop for some milk.

To be honest, I laugh at anyone who thinks they've properly raced anything on a public road.
Same people that have never really driven on a track and think how they are driving fast on public roads is a good and accurate test of both the cars limits.

Actually, just checked the Crail raceway time page and it was actually doing 12.8s.
Seems they are not a car to be sniffed at tbh doing those sort of times.

It has 300bhp standard.
Do people expect it to be slow?
No.
Do we expect it to beat a 500bhp M5?
No.

Yeah, because tyres don't work properly on road tarmac. You utter bellend
If it's an engineered race, then it's a proper race. Stop trying to be elite.

Your opinion is irrelevant as you have never driven on a track you cannot understand how on public road you cannot go anywhere near a cars limit, therefore these claimed "victories" will be full of inaccuracy and variables. I was the same, used to think I was proper pushingit on the edge when driving like an idiot on roads, you're not.
More than just tyres on tarmac, firstly its not even smooth tarmac, its patchy, bumpy and potholed all over the place, in fact you wont have even explored the tyres limits on public roads let alone anything else.
Secondly, and more importantly, you cannot take equal lines, nor the most efficient lines, you also have a million other obstacles, traffic lights, road signs, pedestrians etc to be aware of. You cannot use the brakes to there full ability. You are both required to drive on the same side of the road.
All this considered you cannot accurately compare two cars ability on a public road, end of discussion.

Lol,
Seriously it doesn't take much track driving to realise that you cant drive anything like the levels you can on road than that on track. Therefore trying to compare cars on the road is pretty pointless

Ive never "raced" on the road, but i have had a play, a bit fun, whatever you want to call it.
If you are going hammer and tongs, and something else is joining in, id be certain they were trying etc.
I would go as far as to say the people in that thread are of the same opinion.

Yeah absolutely, but you can never conclusively say X is faster than Y on a public road, nothing wrong with having a play and suggesting that in that scenario you seemed to have the edge.
I was merely trying explain how those idiots on the Golf R forum have no case in claiming their cars are quicker than something else based on some shit road test. Just so happened Ben took it personally, got angry again, and start talking about tyres on tarmac, must be the heat sets him off. Either that or he has a spreadsheet at home in what he's beaten in his hardtop z4 on the road and takes it v seriously.

but if the race is "for example" between a set of lights and both set off at the same time and one wins by a large mile then surely that was a race and surely someone won it?
in that particular situation the car was faster?

I think if the difference was massive you could conclude something, still slower cars can equal faster cars if they are well setup and corners are involved.
These golf R idiots are claiming to beat cars that are actually probably better at both

Wtf Steve
So if the road is arrow straight and both cars are next to eachother, you can't use the whole rev range of your car/maximum performance, which is essence is pushing the car to it's pimits in terms of engine performance and traction?
Do you even believe the shit you're typing here? It makes no sense.
Thats a race and you know it. Maybe not one you're used to which involves corners and stuff, but it is a drag race nevertheless.
Key word being ''race''.

Who's racing on a track day anyway?

Most people who do track days are anal and spend most of the time analysing the car and modifications or trying to employ techniques they see on the tv/internet or read about in books.
It's like any hobby really. The more serious you get, the more anal and annoying people there are to cause arguments.
