My neighbours getting rid of his car, it's SORN'd, no MOT and a non-runner. Will he be able to retain it? I've only ever transferred mine, so I don't know if the same rules apply about having tax and MOT? Thanks!

Doesn't the car have to have an mot to remove the plate ?

Not sure, I've looked on the DVLA site, all I can see is that is says pre-1960's cars need a valid MOT. Just says you need to post your MOT certificate, doesn't say it needs to be valid

As far as ive been led to believe, the car has to have a valid mot in order for the plate to be removed.

Infact id say its a certainty as my mates dad bought a Subaru just for the plate and had to have it MOT'd before he could transfer the plate.
