LR plan to release a more refined and modernised version of the Defender.. They say it will have an aluminium chassis and 7 or 8 speed auto box... ..You might even get some interior trim!

About time they sorted out the defender. Something like that would bring it bang up to date.

That's not really what its about though is it, granted I think it needed a bit of a refresh, that above though will just be owned by people in London taking their kids to school.

LR already have the evoque in the rnage for that

Err I hate to break this to you but most Defenders are owned by middle class families as a fashion statement.. Hence why they are so bloody expensive!

Just like Classic VW Campers aren't all owned by hippies but generally owned by people with a good job and lots of disposable income because they want to 'be cool'.

I live in Liverpool, most Range Rovers are owned by drug dealers or very successful business men who work on the docks etc.

Plenty of Evoques here, owned by wannabe WAG's.

The Land Rover Defenders are owned by local farmers and scallys who take them off road.

Hows it like for your local area?!

That Defender is not the way forwards I don't think unless Mercedes make an updated G Wagon?

LR need to just let it go. Nothing wil ever live up to the name so why bother.

Although i the k it's sacrilege that they are having to stop making them.

Steve is also 100% on this

Pretty much all owned by farmers round here, probably because there are a lot of farmers though, very few fashion ones, apart from a friend who has an Overfinch.

LR are pretty much stuffed though, if they didn't have to I'm certain they'd continue to make small improvements/refinements here and there and everyone who bought the last one would buy the new one. Unfortunately the high cost has already made a few buy L200 type stuff though, too drastic a change and they'll lose their core market.

Is this news to you Davey?

Been in the pipeline for years.

I don't know where they'll place it.

Discovery and Range Rover have just about all the 4x4 niches covered.

Another carbon copy with a different shell might not work.

Mock up?? thats the DC100 concept auto car have driven one

Due to EU law we have to scrap the defender, and they want to replace it with something more capable than anything else we sell,

interestingly the old defender is the worst off road car we make

LR said in the Autocar article it will be made to be tough, I would assume it will be marketed as a utilitarian vehicle for farmers etc.

Emphasis on strength and rugged underpinnings, possibly a ultra luxry storied variant to compete with the Gwagen.
