Got one tomorrow. Is it strictly black suit black tie? I bought a dark blue dinner suit earlier in year which is dark blue with black lapels . Got the shiney shoes n all that shit. Can you wear a dark blue tie ? I tried a black tie but doesn't go . I know this is possibly thee gayest post ever but I haven't been to any of these oyti toiti do's before. I don't fancy banging another grand out on a black suit

Ideally it's black dj with black bow-tie, dress shirt and dress shoes (polished or polished capped) but you'll probably get away with it although why did you buy a blue dj anyway? Usually you'd go with black or navy (worse case).

No idea Gary . I got asked and said yes . I can't imagine there been a load people in black and me stood out like a sore thumb with a blue suit . I think it's due to the tidy piece am going with to why I said yes but I just really can't be arsed with all this pretentious oyti toiti bollocks and everyone thinking they are the superior to the rest of the human race because they have a 800 pair of shoes on and a Rolex

Sorry it is navy . With black lapels .The tie is same colour as the suit. My shoes are shiny . With the lapels been black a black tie doesn't go as good as a blue one . But obviously there will be rules and regulations I will have to follow .

Dark blue will be fine, it's the only thing you can wear other than the usual black. A black tie is a must though, should look okay with the black lapel.
Had to go to a few of these over Christmas and a few had the above combo.

You will be fine but dark blue will stand out when stood with people in dinner suits
I would also make sure you wear a black tie
I would get a black suit as they are always handy for formal events and the dreaded funerals

I would always associate black tie to mean a bow tie.
Wearing a normal black tie looks like you're going to a funeral imo.

Black tie means wearing a DJ, so that's a dinner jacket suit, dress shirt and bow tie. I don't think the colour is too important, though most people will wear black or navy. If you're 'flashy' then you could turn up in a nice baby blue number

Yup; it's a bow tie (preferably not a clip-on) not a vanilla black tie (although you can get away with a black tie) 
Oh and if it's a day time event then white DJ's are usually worn, not black

I've been to one black tie event, had a normal black tie, felt like a plank. I was worried about feeling like a plank with a bow tie too
