As above, mainly for restaurants.
Personally, always. With exceptions if the service and food was abysmal.

If someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra.

Sometimes I do.
If I go to Harvestor and ask for a coke, they say it's free refills. However, to give me an empty glass and expect me to put the first drink in, really fucks me off.
Happens most times at harvestor. No tip when it does

I will generally tip 10% or so in a restaurant, yeah, unless they've pissed me off. If they've pleased me suitably they will get a bit more

That does make me laugh. It's just complete laziness by the staff.
We go to one further away because our nearest one does this. They also ran out of chips and once made us wait for 20 minutes without asking what we wanted, so we left.
Most places make you feel like you have to tip, so I put anything up to a fiver down.
I don't get tips for doing my job though, so why should they?

Because they generally get paid minimum wage, or in some cases, less because management use the tips as part of their wage
(Used to be the case anyway, but not sure if it still it)

Have they been forced to work as a waiter/waitress?

I do if I think the service is worth it... if I don't then I don't

We shouldn't tip low paid workers in this country. Americans tip but they rely on that for the low paid jobs.
For me tipping in this country is showing appreciation of having had good food and not because we think it is the right thing to do/expected of us.

I had a £155 meal a few weeks ago in Edinburgh for me and the girlfriend. I rounded it up to £170.

Yes as I work in a Harvester and my tips pay for my cars
As for the early comment about having to get your own coke(or Pepsi as it is) go for a slightly more imaginative drink there is a bar full of drink

Generally always tip, but there's places that I wouldnt tip or would tip more/less than others.
As mentioned above, nicer restaurants you get better service and food, places like harvester, weatherspoons etc the staff just don't care much. But let's face it, your not going there for a 'nice' meal out, your going because it's cheap...

If the bill comes with a service charge then a tip 'goes out the window', otherwise it depends on the service, where i am etc

Normally stick an extra 50p - £1 down. Find it weird that people actually do it as a % though. Must be an English thing.

Fuck no - nobody tips me at my work, and i do a great job.
In america i did as its the way of life - however one restaurant added the tip themselves to the bill without asking.... I asked for it removed - cheeky cunts

Nope, not in this country.
Sometimes round up to the nearest note if I'm (rare) paying cash and don't want to lump coins around with me.

I'm a tight git so no, i never tip
No tip for a hair cut, infact i go to the cheapest place i know
No tip for slutty bar maids even if they do want to suck you off at the end of the night
No tips at restaurants as the food is usually over priced
No tip for the takeaway guy as he's probably already spat in your food as well cooked a dead animal
In this country, if you rely on tips to get by, get a better job. That is my tip
