Last year I started collecting 1:43 scale models. One collection I'm currently chasing is the Brumm 1:43 Ferrari 250 GTO collection. It's limited to 250 pieces of each particular livery. So far, I've got the first four out of fifteen. Another four are due to arrive this week one thing I disliked was how poor the standard wheels looked, so I upgraded them to some beautiful photo etched wheels. I had the camera to hand so took some photos of the process. All shots were lit using just a desktop lamp.

Original wheels

During assembly

Old verses New

New shoes fitted

The other four cars got the same treatment

I wouldn't say it devalues them. You can actually but a "photo eched" wheel upgrade for this collection from the maker, but they still dont look anywhere near as representative as these ones I've fitted. As Tom mentioned, they are 1:43 scale replicas if the borrani wheel

Only takes two minutes to refit the original wheels. I can't really see why it matters that they are now not as they came?

Nicely done Rob.

Can't help thinking they could have done with a bit of a light, careful black-wash in the spoke areas though, as even though they are obviously a far superior wheel, they lack some of the depth of the dark areas on the standard rims.

Nice collection too.

Have you many 1/43rds Sir?

Got a few myself. They're good because they take up a lot less space than most of my other shite

I never thought to do that Svm. I've never attempted anything like that so I need to do some reading up first!

I've got a handful of 1:43 models, the four above, another Brumm model of Graham Hill's 1962 P57 BRM, an IXO bug eye impreza road car, a Spark Golf24, a very rare Trofeu 1999 Network Q Burns & Kankkunen set and a Minichamps 2003 Bentley speed 8 Le Mans winners box set. What have you got in your collection?

Indeed Sir. Do a bit of reading on techniques.

I'd be masking all but the spokes with the tires off and then giving it a light blotting and clean off.

Oh and blimey, i've got a fair few. Lots of different makes too. Some cheapies, some silly money.

Off the top of my head...

Three E-Types

McLaren F1

DTM E36 M3

Three or four Tyrrells including a P34

F2 car (can't remember which)

2 Brawns

Lauda Ferrari

Multiple Minis

Sapphire Cosworth

Miura

Stingray

Toyota 7

Citroen DS Safari

Sierra Cosworth Rally car

348 Competition

265 SWB

Le Mans Viper

LWB MK I Transit twin wheel Firestone transporter

Team Gold Leaf Mini Moke hard-top towing a Europa

Aston Martin DBS

Multiple DB5s

Esprit

007 Esprit

Morris Minor van

MK I Escort van

RS 2000 rally car

2 Gullwing Mercs

3 or 4 Michelin branded Citroen, Renault and Peugeot vans

MK I Cortina 2 door

1970 6.3 litre AMG Mercedes Enduro car

I think there's others too, but that's all I can think of right now.

Got 1/18ths too. And loads of static kits, plus loads of slot cars and RC stuff.

Loft is rammo.

The vagina repellant is strong with this one
