hi just wondering if anyone else has tried the "diesel plus unleaded trick".
just mixed a small amount of unleaded into the fuel tank of my 1.7 cdti combo .
god knows where the extra oomph has come from but top end 65mph + has never been so good .
so much more responsive in foot off foot on acceleration .
don't ask for measurements cause I didn't measure .
just had about half a pint of petrol and added it with half a tank of normal diesel .
any thing I should watch out for ?
cheers

No way I'd be putting unleaded into a common rail diesel engine.

Actually it's not unheard of to put a small amount of petrol into a diesel fuel tank as it kind of does the same job as an injector fuel system cleaner from the likes of forte gets rid of the residue diesel can leave inside fuel pipes filters injectors etc just don't put too much in as the petrol will sit onto of the diesel and it'll be a bastard to start the car once started it'll run fine though

My issue is the petrol will remove all the lube from the fuel pump, which a lot of the cleaners aren't so hard on apparently.

I like a bit of 2-stroke oil in diesel, 200:1 mix though.

Wouldn't risk it on a modern diesel engine though, can't imagine the injectors would cope too well with it

I put £7 of petrol into my Mum's diesel 307 by mistake. Couldn't be bothered with draining it and changing the fuel filter so just brimmed it with diesel.

Guess it's not too bad for it then

If you're meaning what I said, I do it on modern diesel engines. I've had no issues in the 30k+ I've done it for. Its such a small amount (hence saying its 200:1) that its not going to make a huge problem.

It helps lube the pump, and helps the burn of the diesel.

Why bother though? why make your life hard work by adding the wrong fuel? Plus we are talking about a combo ffs. They drive perfectly well as they are. Some crazy folk on here. I would prefer to know I was getting home or that it will start when I get into it than it's 65+ speeds

My dad and uncle used to do this with a van and a shogun. Apparently it's quite common practice. Like the redex stuff just much better then it. I wouldn't do it too often but I wouldn't think running a bit through every few tanks can do any real harm.. It should blow a fair amount of carbon out the engine too

Will the petrol ever actually reach the engine unless you run it almost dry?

Can't imagine diesel and petrol will mix.

People used to do this on old-school diesels to help them start in the cold weather but to do this on a modern common rail system is just plain stupid and when you're fuel pump fails we'll all laugh at you.

Little bit of diesel in an old petrol engine doesn't do any harm, gets a bit smokey.

The garage I used to work in had a petrol station across the road, I used to run my old 8v corsa off the dirty fuel from people putting petrol into diesel cars.
