Work are considering the need to get some of us a bit more independent for site meetings etc and want to look into options for Pool Cars. Our needs for cars aren't enough to warrant having company cars each or even a shared one for the office but we would like to have access to a car when needed. We can obviously hire a car as and when needed but this would require doing the paperwork etc each time. There are also the co-wheels type organisations but I think these are mainly for private use.

Does anybody else's work make use of any hire/car share type companies or have any suggestions on options?

Thanks,

Simon

This only really happens 3/4 times a month so doesn't make sense to have a car sitting around the rest of the time hence wanting something with easier access for those times.

3 or 4 times each or between you?
Adding business class insurance won't increase your premium and they should offer a reasonable mileage return.

I either use hire car (admittedly Enterprise only 5 min walk away) or existing company car.

Surely you could just use an existing company car that is sitting there?

Normally use colleagues car who doesn't go out, just has company car as part of package.

We have pool cars in work that people use, if they are all out we hire cars in for people from enterprise, they are doing something called month or more which could be something that you could look into.

Using people's company's cars probably wouldn't work, if somebody goes for a meeting somewhere and it over runs or you get stuck in traffic how will they get home :/

We have a BMW i3, a Kangoo Z.E and a Mitsubishi PHEV as pool cars which are company owned (probably leased!). We also have Zipcar membership for when we need an extra car every now and again - this seems like quite a good option for occasional use and if you've got a club car nearby. I believe that they just need a copy of your driving license and then you're on the account and insured. Zipcar have a model for personal and model for business use, so if you've got a car club nearby then it might be worth seeing if they can work with you - it's certainly popular around our office

There are no existing company cars to borrow /use. Ed zip cars looks the sort of thing we are after, there's one near the office, couldn't see anything in an initial look with regards to business use but will have a proper look tomorrow. Cheers!

We hire cars from Pentagon as/when needed. Good rates and fairly flexible.

Your company should ask you to add Business cover to your insurance and cover the additional costs

Then use your own vehicle and claim the inflated pence per mile

Both sides win, you get some extra money and the company has a means of transporting you off site when required

We have one car between myself and wife and she uses it for work. I cycle to work, otherwise we would be doing just that.
