Hi People, new to this place !

I have a 2003 1.2 corsa and when I bought it didn't have any coolant in it, so just to check for leaks I filed it with water rather than buying coolant and just loosing it all.

So there was no leaks luckily ! so I thought nothing of it until I was reading up on the problems of just sticking water in your cooling system, so I decided to flush the system.

Needles to say it was a tough job not having the right tools ! first the plastic drainer wasn't coming off so decided to just take the bottom pipe off which worked !

what came out :/ ... I would attach a photo but not sure how to :/

once I drained it I filled it back up but it took no where as near as much coolant that what came out.

I filled it half way and then well it wouldn't take any more, so I was confused at this, so took off some pipes blew into them and sucked them, got some more coolant into the radiator, but still no where as near what it was. I then ran the engine for a wee while, temperature rose to 80 within a couple of minutes (much, much faster than with the old stuff in it) which stumped me, I let the engine heat up and thought it should pull the new coolant round but nothing.

so now I am in the situation where Im not quite sure how full my system is, and would rather it be too full with more than half in the reservoir then less than half in the car, scared to think that there is no circulation of coolant.

some more info the top hoes on the drivers side going into the engine is very hot and feels like there is nothing in it.

any help would be much appreciated !!

Probably blocked, take the bottom pipe off and run a garden hose through the whole system

Air block no doubt? Which car are you speaking about?

As not aware of a plastic drainer on Corsa b

Turn engine on, Heaters on full and take the lid off the header tank.

Leave it running for a few minutes and keep your tub of coolant handy for an airlock

I'm not aware of a 2003 corsa b lol

Probably means the bit on the side of the radiator that looks like it's removeable but isn't.



Anyway remove your coolant bottle cap

Start car

Put heater to full heat (red)

Put blower on full blow speed

Let engine run whilst monitoring the temperature and topping up bottle as the level should drop once the stat opens

Holding the revs up a bit may also help

Once the levels dropped and you have topped it up sufficiently stick the cap back on



Are u mixing your coolant 50:50 or is it pre mixed?

I think his problem was that he put his heaters on hot (blue) luckily tom pointed out that it's hot (red) , might be worth telling him where to put the key to start the car as well just to clarify.

Iv seen people just put the blowers on full before now and still be on cold, judging by his description he's clearly not mechanically minded so I was making it clear and simple for him.

Hi guys thanks for ... the help and the good read haha please don't argue.
It is a corsa C and the plastic bit I was talking about is the drain plug.
I had the car running for a while (not sure the state of the heaters inside the car) but it didn't take the coolant I had put into the tank. the coolant its self got warmer and warmer. should I start the engine and have full heat (yes RED) and full blast and let it settle ? How does this affect the engine coolant ?
It is a red pre mix that I am using

Engine coolant goes through Heater matrix so by having Heaters on full blast it's sllowing the coolant to go round the whole system and with the cap off it should self bleed any air out

Hi guys, yeah so started it today and took it a wee run checked temp at the end of it and the amount left in the coolant tank and seems to be fixed now cheers guys.
