Is it some sort of Alzheimers or memory related issue?

I've been looking at this watch for a while. Seems to track just about everything I would ever need. The golf bit is particularly good for me. Reduced now too, might have to buy this.

Maybe your constant comments like this make Davey (and everyone else) take you less seriously?

Seems a good deal though, wouldn't mind something like that for when I go swimming as for some reason I can never keep track of how many laps I do.

Gets great reviews too.

Why track shit? You know where you have run, i see people post maps of where they ran or cycled on facebook. Its just another way of people trying to impress other people, you are all just insecure imo

They're a very useful tool if you're training for races/events and helps with progress. They integrate social media because they can, doesn't mean you have to use it though. Saying that, if you have friends and use the same routes (but it's not possible to do the activity together) then it does allow you to have some friendly competition between you all - Strava is a good example.

Seems like a sure way of causing unnecessary injuries

Nic - Seems a bit of a bargain that; what are the reviews like?

I've never once posted any tracking information from any activity onto Facebook. I use tracking as a means to record my own progress and training.

This boy's hit the nail on the head. Facebook likes.

Maybe not in Barnes' case, but it's true for every cunt on Facebook who posts the tracking up. No one cares if you've run around the block

What else would you do with it?

Surely you know were you've been, if you don't know where you've been then you were lost... Its that simple really

i dont know off the top of my head when im running what my mile split times are, exactly how far ive ran, or also if im faster than i was last time i did it etc. its extremely useful in all honesty adds some motivation, and like dom says, friendly competition.

its only recently that the likes of strava have been able to post to facebook. the majority of people that use the app are using it for its purpose. i think the only time ive posted something up was when i did the cumbrian run.

They do a lot more than simple route tracking. But they aren't aimed at the bloke that does a once in a blue moon jog around the block in an attempt to keep his man-boobs in check; they're for people that take it a bit more seriously where the extra information is useful in training and events.

Exactly my thoughts. Sometimes you are running/cycling somewhere new and you can't gauge how far you've travelled or what your pace is so the tracking equipment is very useful.

Didn't buy the watch yesterday though, decided it looked a little too clumsy. I'll wait for something a little more subtle and refined in shape I think.

I take part in long distance cycle events .... ie, up to 150 miles in a day and multiple day events. You are tired after an hour ... after 4 hours you hit a wall ... after 10 hours you dont remember much of what happened and have no real idea how you are doing. Also, if you are out riding, hiking or running for several hours in remote areas any kind of phone tracking will kill your phone battery and leave you isolated.

Unless you have some kind of device tracking your progression in training you have no idea if you are going to make it through a long event. You also have no idea what kind of efforts you were putting in during that ride. I often think I have nailed a 30 mile stretch of a ride only to find out I was going no where near as fast as it seemed after reviewing the ride.

These devices are great - there is a reason why Team Sky records everything and do not just blindly train until they are tired .

Also on the bike - you quite often go on routes with a friend or club where you have no idea where you are or how you got there ....with a device like this you can upload the rote onto a site like ridewithgps and store it on a sat nav or print off maps and turn by turn guides.

So what if people use them for runs around the block or short rides then post it up on facebook for likes .... thats how I started and now ive lost 4 stone and am raising decent amounts for charity. Im by no means a serious athlete - im still a fatty ...but tracking your progress is really useful and thats a good deal on a decent device

Basically you are talking shit.
