So its officially out tomorrow, for those of you who have pre-signed up to this using their upgrade tool you should see notification either tomorrow or Thursday.
I've been using build 10240 for a couple of weeks now and have to say im really enjoying the OS.
From memory, its a free upgrade but you must complete the free upgrade even if you wish to run a clean install. I think Microsoft store your hardware hash's on their servers during the upgrade process.
After formatting and reinstalling (after the upgrade), theres no need to enter a key as the hardware hash is remembered.

I reserved mine yesterday morning for my laptop, the screenshots look nice.
I've got an XP computer sitting upstairs which I need to back up and get rid of (one I built myself). As it's not an OEM it didn't come with Windows (it's using the standard 'student' edition of XP that I think every man and his dog has ) - I have a fresh disc of Win7 Home Premium and I also bought a licence for Win 8.1 - if I install either of those OS's on that PC would it be possible to get the free upgrade and somehow port the licence over to new hardware when I get round to upgrading it? Basically I don't want a Win10 licence locked to a computer built years ago which I could use on my next PC build

I'm pretty sure the upgrade is tied to the hardware - i.e. it's free for 'the lifetime of the device' - that said, if you buy a new PC it'll come with Windows 10 anyway so it's swings and roundabouts.
edit: just seen you're planning on building a new one. Just make sure you do it within the next year, then install your Win7/8.1 and upgrade on your newly built PC.

I quite like the windows Hello feature, basically face recognition for laptops/machines webcams and logs you in automatically.
A lot slicker than I anticipated.....

Sure I've seen this on a Toshiba laptop already?

& hp has it in their security suite, not that it ever works.
Can't see any benefit of it either really. Would love to test it one day with a photo

Bit lame of them to have put adverts in solitare.
From what I have seen so far looks like a good progression form 8.1
So glad they have fixed the command console at long last

Tried installing it... had to manually pull it through Windows Update as my PC hasn't recieved the upgrade yet.
Downloaded it, but it failed. So currently installing the Media Creation tool from Microsoft that creates a Windows 10 ISO, but also gives you the option to use it as an installation method.
Im currently on 2% completed...

Doesn't look like Dell have approved my Dell XPS upgrade so I have to wait.
Ironic since its half PC/half tablet and so exactly what Microsoft were supposedly aiming at

Wouldn't work for me either (take it you tried the SoftwareDistribution/wuauclt.exe)
Tried the ISO too but it just hangs forever then crashes.
Thought they might treat those with a Surface a little better this is very frustrating.

Yes mate, I tried the media creator and it failed on 100%. Trying it again now, I don't think I had enough space on my SSD.

It's coming in waves buddy. At least it seems I'm not the only one...
I see why they've done this, but it's making a frustrating experience for a lot of people

All done. Ran the media creation tool and upgraded my PC. It failed last night because I didn't have enough space. Really like it so far.

How much space do you need? I've only got 10Gb free! Can easily get rid of some stuff though...
Anyway it seems to be working so far today... doing the upgrade. Did you need a licence key or anything? I have a Surface Pro but have no idea where to find my licence! I think you can upgrade, then do a factory fresh install after amirite?

For those that like to use a bootable USB or burn it on to CD here is the ISO link for both 32 and 64bit systems.
