Why cant you stamp your own service book? or does a service only count if its done by a registered business? What do you even need to own a valid stamp?

Basically I want to service my own car, but obviously this means I cant get the book stamped - must be ways around it, honest ways I mean

why bother when saying you serviced it to the next owner yourself is as good as saying its never been serviced.

Won't keep a warranty valid. Its annoying that to keep my warranty I have to take it to a garage just to get stamps, when I know I can be ten times more careful and do it myself

i know what you mean, however because you think you can do it more careful doesnt mean anything to a complete stranger that buys it from you sadly. even though common sense dictates most mechanics are careless morons at garages, people still seem to believe they know best for some reason.

I have a warranty external from the garage I purchased my car from and I know they won't accept a stamped service book as proof of servicing. They require a valid VAT invoice from a garage in order to prove the car has been maintained correctly to keep warranty valid.

This is my gripe. I don't understand why a VAT invoice proves a car has been maintained correctly. I can maintain a car correctly myself without VAT invoices. I know from their point of view its just your word saying that, but what about if you kept all receipts or something

Is this your VXR?

Just get it serviced at Vauxhall. It's like £129? Hardly much compared with other VM's. You can get it serviced anywhere else outside the network so long as they use the correct schedules and gen parts, the warranty will be valid because of block exemption.

Seems senseless to want to service your own brand new car, not that there is anything wrong with doing an oil change itself personally, but it's likely to wipe out a shit load of value, or fraudulently complete a log book which will only come back to haunt you.

Yeah, I cant see how its fraud though, because you have done the service lol

It would be fraud to fill it in and not do the service granted

Vat register a fake company and get your own stamps made.... Service yourself with fake invoices to yourself? May have to pay a bit tax

Or just go to vaux

The clue is in the name of the box that you stamp: "MAIN DEALER STAMP", anything else other than a main dealer stamp can amount to fraud.. Trading standards are hot on this at the moment.

WTF are you talking about? What has VAT got to do with anything?

Steve, are you talking about your Brand-new Corsa here??

If you have bought it out-right you should get it serviced at the main-dealer as it will help with the resale value and any warranty claims.

Also if its on PCP/Finance you will probably find one of the conditions of the finance is that it is serviced 'PROPERLY' otherwise you might find yourself paying a hefty penalty at the end.

I thought it changed that you could get it serviced any garage now and they have to honour the warranty?

Wonder if keeping a detailed record of parts used etc as per that article would suffice

Hate the thought of this, what if you are paying someone and they aren't even doing it yet still stamping the book.

You will have to pay someone to service it, and then take it home and do it yourself.

if you get it done at a main dealer the service gets saved on vx's computer system, won't get recorded if you don't
