Has anyone had any experiences with buying/selling a car with the new Consumer Rights Act 2015 that came in 1st October?

I bought a used car for my wife about a week ago. Needs work and the seller didn't want to know at first. A friend who is a motor trader told me about the new law. Since mentioning that to the seller he has offered to pay towards the work but is refusing the vehicle back. Citizens advice said I need to send a letter and wait 14 days for him to reply, but even then I don't think he will refund me even though he has to by law. But my wife needs a car, im not sure what to do

From the way that reads I take it as a dealer has to refund you if you reject the car (and stop using it immediately) but a private seller does not

Also says that it has to a problem that you wouldn't expect for the age and mileage of the car - but surely this could be argued. Seems a bit of a grey area.

In that case there's always been rights to protect you from the Sale of Goods Act, but this new Consumer Rights Act is just a new version of that. You have a couple of options, I would do as citizen's advice have advised you and write a letter stating why you wish to return it and what you want to happen (i.e. a refund), and if that doesn't work you can always take them to small claims court (county court) where it can be enforced upon them to refund you.

What car is it, how old, what's the milage and what did you pay?

Also what does 'need work' mean? What's wrong with it
