Looking to get shut of Sky as we hardly use any of the channels. Can anyone recommend a decent box.
I'm looking at this currently: http://www.johnlewis.com/panasonic-dmr-bwt740eb-smart-3d-blu-ray-dvd-hdd-1tb-with-freeview-hd-twin-recorder/p1515495
Replaces the Sky box, DVD player and Apple TV. Perfect!
I wouldn't be bothered about the cost if i was on my own but i know the baby will soon be trashing my house
Edit: I've spotted Additional Care

I wanted to do the same with Virgin, they pissed me right off!
In the end I bought a Pure Avalon from Costco for £99.99.. Its great!
However when I phoned up Virgin to rage quit they halved my bill, but I've been not using their box out of spite

I've just got a YouView box. Got it for free when I signed up for BT TV @ £5 per month, cancelled BT TV after one year and kept the box.
The UI is a bit slow to respond but it's generally pretty good.

Serious question - Is there anything wort recording on Freeview that you cant get on demand?
Probably worth investing in a fire stick thats been played with to get sports and movies.

You can only record the channel you are watching though, which sort of defeats the purpose of a PVR

I just schedule up shit loads of stuff that interests me then when I get a chance I watch it..
Most of the decent Freeview PVR's have got YouTube, iPlayer, 4oD etc too.

Just looked up the one from your thread.. It has a Twin Tuner, that's pretty cool Not seen any with a twin tuner yet.. I take it that it will schedule recordings when in standby?

I find most of the on-demand apps are a load of shit, plus you still have to watch the adverts.

I'm not convinced on demand is quite there just yet. I do believe it will get much better over time.
i'm going to pop to CostCo over the weekend to have a look at what they have there. Always impressed with prices and kit at CostCo.

Visited CostCo on Saturday - they didn't have any Freeview recorders on show.
Had a look in Tesco over the weekend, nothing that stood out.

Are there any TVs out there that will record?
I'm thinking ahead here as my little boy will be walking in the next few months and nothing is going to be safe. A TV can go on the wall out of his way.
Budget wise, i've probably got around 1k i could spend. Current TV is 37"
I've been working silly hours again so not had much time to look. Mrs is going to be going mad in a couple of weeks when she can't record Emerdale Farm

Mrs bought a HUMAX box from Tesco. Plugged it in this evening. First impressions is that it's quick in comparison to the sky box we had and does what we need - Records TV.
After a couple of months it can be thrown away as it will have paid for itself.
I think i want to upgrade the TV now i've been looking
