Here we have my project from how it was to how it is now. It was originally bought as an emergency second car, previously I was trying to build a nova Redtop but the battle
After 3 months of ownership the car was sorn and the idea of corsa Redtop flew into my mind then corsa Redtop track car then finally corsa Redtop track/sprint car. So the work began and it was a lot rougher than I thought so que the a team music the welder and the grander and a lot of man hours an here are progress pictures
As you can see the tin worms had been on the wing so chop chop weld weld and here you go
My fix for the tin worm
More tin worm
One new cross member welded in place
Here we have the front end fixes all painted

Then we moved onto the back portion of the car to find it had had. A rear shipment at some point and guess what more rust so welder and frinder and sheet metal to the rescue.
Here it is finished and painted, granted it not a 100% brilliant job but it's a bloody awkward place to repair
Now I started to strip off everything mad investigate any more rot/potential mot failure and found the suspension points on both sides that go into the chassis were tin wormed so chopped it all out and plated it, it's one of the worse jobs so far as it was multi skinned and access was terrible plus welding shit metal onto good metal

So next phase was to remove all sound deadening and check the floor pan for rust and rot.
As you can see the sound deadening was hiding some nasty secrets

Next stop was a costly trip to demon tweeks, credit card melted, in ten mins I managed to buy a cage two seats seat mounts and fire extinguisher system. Then the real fabrication work began.
I can't find my pictures of the front mounts I fabricated. Currently in with removing all the original seat mountings that are spot welded into the car so I can put solid ones that are welded to the chassis in.

So what the engine going to be then, well I hate to be boring it's gonna be a Redtop I bought one with""73k" on the clock, now I didn't hear it run or anything so got it home cracked a few beers open and began to strip it down for full rebuild.
How it arrived
Then down to a short block
Sent it to the machine shop to Cheka the bored get it honed and acid dipped to remove the nasty paint job. Out came the paint and away I went.

So another day on the Corsa and some real headway has been made, it's back in a rolling shell thank god. So much easier to move about now it's on wheels, although did find I am missing a few bolts.
When this was done I git back to the major job removing the last of the spot welds on the seat rails so I cam get my bucket seats welded in, did find more rust only surface so should be good with a wire brush and primer. Lots of welding of the holes to be done and next job remove the brake lines from back to front and start welding.
Last job was to install my new second hand boot and bonnet I acquired, I quite like them in black can't decide if I should spray them or keep them the colour they are

It's. Even a while since any update so here we go. Finally got round to the long process of fabricating the seat mounts.
The finished article
Now I welded them to some bracing plates and to the chassis
Next step is starting the door bars
And that's as far as I got this evening. The passenger side nearly completed another hour and it should all be done, well the passenger side any way

So had s spare hour this morning whilst the wife slept so nipped out fired up the welder and made some big steps in a short time here are the results
As you can see the door bar is fully installed and as much as I can do is welded up, once the cage is out it I will finish welding them up.
Next step is the the drivers side which is gonna be a longer job

Not done an update for a few weeks, so here is a big ish one. Finally finished the seat install passengers side was a lot easier than the drivers side
And finally finished the roll cage install door bars and all
I removed the heater box so I could remove the last of the sound deadening in preparation for interior painting
Next step is to cut out the rot in the boot, weld it up tidy up my welds everywhere and then paint. Roll cage has been removed and will be going to the powder coaters soon.
