I travel on that road nearly every day and there are traffic cops all the way up it, not forgeting the cameras every 2 miles aswell. What a tit.

There was a mass debate on SN which is where i saw it 1st time. They worked out the distance etc and it was miles off that 1/4 mile

Yeah thats based on a Ford Anglia which is what all braking distances/speed limits are based upon. Nowadays its ok to do 90mph, since cars can brake much faster and are much more controlled than the lame cars of yesteryear. The speed limit of motorways is 70mph, since this is the maximum speed a Ford Anglia could acheive. Its also worth pointing out that the much learned braking distances which you come across in theory tests etc, are all from the Ford Anglia. How lame. I remember this being on Top Gear ages ago. Funnily enough though, the Range Rover cannot stop in the same distance as the Anglia and just carries on going!
