Microsoft threatened with $2.2trillion fine
Web posted on 9/5/03 That's $2,200,000,000,000 all over a security flaw in their Passport system.
$2.2trillion. That is a lot of money. Even for Bill Gates. But that's the fine Microsoft could be facing after a security problem emerged in their web-wide Passport system.
It took security researcher Muhammed Faisel Rauf Danka just four minutes to discover the security breach. He found he could gain access to Passport accounts by typing "emailpwdreset" into a URL that has the email address of the intended target and the location where the reset message should be sent. The password would reset and access would be granted.
Three hours later Microsoft had plugged the hole. The potential for the fine comes from the Federal Trade Commission of the US government. In 2002 they demanded that Microsoft improve the security behind the Passport system or face fines of up to $11,000 per violation. And with 200 million users, that adds up to one big chunk of change.
If anything does come of this, you can rest assured you'll read it here first.

If you could build your own AppleMac, I'd get one.

Macs are poo. Even the fastest are slow in comparison to todays Intels and Athlons. Way too expensive for what you get. Totally user unfriendly and XP is just as stable as OS X or whatever its called. They really are for those who like their clothes to be branded al over.
