hi there lads, just going to hardwire a neon light into my glovebox and i'm planning to use the ciggie lighter cables to tap for power. My question is which is the live and the earth? I've taken it out and theres two wires, black and brown.

simple way find out is plug 12v test lamp into each side, see what lights up. Brown is oftern earth on a car so I would guess at black, but dont quote me!

black is always ground so brown will be live.

have you not got a wire tester?

Yeah use that, one end on the wire the other on the car body, brown on the sunroof is ground, and if you look at your battery under the bonnet, all the negative side are brown!

forgot, use it on DC voltage setting upto 12v.

so one person is saying brown = earth and someone else saying brown is live

I said dont quote me, but from what I seen before, sunroof motor and battery plugs, they are brown wires. Simple way, test it or i'll go do it now so we can find the answer!

Tested it now! Brown in ground black is live!
There are two spade connectors on the back of the cig lighter, black attaches to the centre of the lighter, brown the side.

Black=live
Brown=earth

or you could just use the wiring vauxhall put in in the glovebox, even if you don't have a light the wiring will be there

On my corsa:
Red=Permanent Live
Black=Swithed Live
Brown=Earth
So if you fit LED door pins, Red to Red and Black to Black, that way they only flash when your ignition is off as they earth back though your loom!
