alrite people a few months back i read how to paint the calipers of me car....can anbody fidn that thread?! also im gonna use hammerite in silver. wat do i have to do to get it smooth etc?! a prompt reply is needed people

just use a harsh scouring pad to remove loose dust

u dont need to cover them, if ur careful and use a small brush, just be very very careful, dont overload the brush and u shouldnt get ne on the disk

paint them with a brush then u can get a thicker coat trust

yeah comes in little tins, about a fiver I think, Thats what I used, silver hammerite in a tin.

dotn buy new stuff? i aint got any sprays or tins so i aint arsed wat i buy!!! i think a tin wuld be better tho. i want a proper shiny finish tho people so please tell me wat i need!

Id get the pads changed first, then paint them up, just incase u end up getting brake dust etc onto ur fresh paint - hammerite take 6 weeks to completely dry and to release all of the solvents held within it, u can apply 2nd coats but within a limited time period-about 1 hour. If u surpass this time limit and then recoat the callipers, the solvents from the first coat, will simply get trapped and lift al lof the paint giving a shit effect.

basically what Im saying is try to do it right first time, otherwise u gotta wait at least 6 weeks to give it another try

u cud paint them now, but if they get dirty, foOKed up when the pads are change, for whatever reson, cracked paint; dust stains etc, then u'll have to wait a few more weeks b4 u can re-do them.

wire brush ur drums n get all the loose paint off, then just hammerite them

use the same stuff, wont cause ne problems, just buy a good brush, which wont drop its bristles.

My drums were quite rusty ( superficially) on the outside b4 I did it, so I used a drill with a wire brush bit in it to get rid of some of this, then did my best to flat them back further; they're not perfect but they look quite good,

hammerite in a tin is fine for this purpose

u need to get as much of the old crap off as possible. With my drums n calipers i got some paint stripper n put that on, got rid of the old paint really quick

just dont paint the face of the drum, where the wheel attaches, cause otherwise u'll have wet paint between wheel and drum, which could a) fuse the 2 together, b) cause it to not dry properly and lift throughout.

U could mask it off, but with a paint brush its pretty easy to see what ur doing.

remember t regrese ur wheel bolts and the ring inside the whel, spigot think its called, to stop future rusting etc. Thats the biggest pain in the arse when it happens

no do the drums too, mite as well seeing as u have the paint and it does make a hell of a difference
