Yep agreed!
Seriously it will take YEARS to get a decent collection.
Get direct drive decks and a good quality mixer and some FuK off big speakers and your there

Well, depends if you'll be using vinyl or CD really?
If vinyl, go for some direct drive decks - belt drive ones are much cheaper, but shite. No torque whatsoever and cheap decks often equals wavering pitch control too.
The best bet would be some Technics 1200/1210's but new one's aren't cheap - ~£700ish for a pair.
If CD, look at the Pioneer CDJ800 but these are about £1k a pair
Both CD and vinyl decks listed are practically the closest you'll get to industry standard so you'll be learning on the best.
Then you'll need a mixer - a basic 2ch one can be got for about £60ish. As with all things, the more you pay, the more inputs and features you can expect.
Depends how much you want to spend, and how much you wanna get into it really?
Oh, and a lil hint - it ain't as easy as it looks at first

Yes it is
Don't forget headphones too, as you'll be enjoying your vinyl through them you being the DJ most of the time.
I've got Sony MDR-V700's and they sound better than any stereo ive ever heard.
Also for 1210's and Vesta PVC-175 Mixer, and Korg Kaoss pad
