Open the file in paint or something and re-save as different format e.g. jpg!

microsoft paint. just open it as a .bmp and then save as and choose the format as .jpg

I use that Photo Editor bollox that comes with MS Office, since I can't be arsed to download and install Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop etc.
