As above, coevred alternator and air intake with plastic bags and cleaned the engine. left it an hour or so to dry off and now it wont start.

whats more worrying is when i tries to start it the exhaust made a bang like a cannon.

now its just turning over. any suggestions.

and yes i have done this before with no problems.

What product/s did you use to clean the engine?

Spray some water dispersant around the dizzy/dispack and the plugs.

sprayed WD40 around the dizzy and plugs etc.

just turns over, a puff of smoke just came out of the engine somewhere but cant see where from.

opened the oil cap and its full ov smoke but oil levels are fine.

Didn't flood the engine by trying to start it too much?

shud have left it runnin when u did it mate. neway try takin the dizzy cap off and spray wd40 in there too as moisture wud have got in there too. i did this too ages ago and had the same trouble, wd40 did the trick for me, also spray some more round the coil lead and ht leads it will go eventually

got it started now guys but its running like a bag of shite.

needs petrol anyway so ill take it for a run in a bit.

when cleaned my mates clio, forgot to cover the dizzy cap, did the plugs etc.. but it had a severe loss of power and made really funny noises, then wouldnt start, left it for 3 hours and it was fine.
