Thats the Lambda sensor, aka oxygen sensor. it picks up the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and sends a massage to the ECU to adjust the air/fuel mix.

Maybe i should try giving my ECU a massage to unleash a few extra horses.

and u didnt even spell it right the second time

try reseting the ecu that mite get the air/fuel mix in better shape, then clean out the carbon deposits from ure engine wit sum sorta cleaner eg.nitrox. apart from that its time to check the cat and make sure its in workin order maybe even giv it a flush through.

the reason u r likely to fail on a high co2 can be due to many things but when mine did it the problem was my vavle stem seals were shot, could also be piston rings

valve stem seals cost me 208 quid to replace with new head gasket (to be safe) cam belt and all the extra little bits

If you give the car a right thrashing before the test so its really hot then the emisions will be lower.

If they are high then you have a problem with something as these engines are designed to run lean and economically.
