Which popups do you mean?
Like advert ones or those caused by the messenger service (not MSN)

The 'little grey box' ones are probably the messenger type ones?
Try this: (assuming you're running Win2000/XP)
Start >
Run >
type services.msc then press enter >
In the list find the service titled 'Messenger' >
Right-click, then Properties >
Click 'Stop' >
Change start-up type from 'Automatic' to 'Manual' >
Ok and thats it!

Also, try using Opera, since it has the option to refuse pop-up windows when browsing...

Download the free popup stopper, its the best one going. I use this for IE, normally use opera but some sites don't work properly with opera.

Yeah, I'm using that aswell......also, have a look for something called System Mechanic, as that removes lots of unwanted programs/etc from your machine.

As long as you change the Startup type to Manual then it's permanent.
