Considering taking the spare wheel out of my boot to save weight

My 1.2 16v is very sensitive to extra weight.... if i have a passenger it performs crap!

Id rather decrease my time!
Weight makes a huge difference though!
Apparently half a sec for the back seats and a second for junking most of the interior!

djlee_dj: It does allot better than i expected!

I used to drive about in my parents 2.0 16v vectra and was expecting to be dissapointed in the 1.2 16v corsa i got.
However it was nowhere near as bad as i though!

Shut up Mike. Anything less than a 1.4 16v is wheezy and asthmatic. Its not fast at all. You need to drive a car with a C20XE power plant. Now that is a good engine Or even my 1.6 Corsa. That seems pretty fast up to 90mph.

speed is relative to the driver.

75bhp for a 1.2 is good.

Does anyone know how much the spare wheel weighs? Would 30kg be a good estimate?

I wanna take mine out too. I've got a GSi, and it's not affecting me much, but I've got a custom sub/amp enclosure that takes up the whole boot. I've got the RCA's/speaker wires/power wires etc coming out up near the back of the seat (front of boot), but the earth wire comes out to the rear bar support (back of boot), so I can't get to my spare unless I unwire my amp. It's a bitch to move the box anyway, so I wouldn't want to do it on the side of the road! Might as well take the spare out and keep a tyre inflator can in the car instead.

I'd say about 10kg.

A 15" alloy with tyres weighs about 15kg.

look mr big 1.6 cyber monkey.....
plz dnt go slaggin off 1.2's. their fine. Plus, the word INSURANCE is always a bad thing when it comes to talking about engine sizes. At 17, a 1.6 aint gonna happen. Plus anyway matey,
1) its better than walking
2) its better than running
3) its better than a scooter
4) its better than biking

ALSO ALSO! the limits are what, 30, 40, 60 or 70..... any car can do them speeds, n thats all ya need !!

Yes but by the time the 1.2 gets upto 60 its time to slow down again, its not how fast it goes but how it gets there.

stripping out an interior is good but you have to do it properly if your serious about performance. Its no good getting rid of seats and interior trim if your gonna leave big subs and amps in your boot. You have got to have an idea of how you want to build your car and stick to it. You can have a cruising show car with 17s and ice install and who gives a fuck what engines in it. You can have an all out performance minded car built for speed and good handling, or you can have an allrounder which is a mixture of both.
