On my girlfriend's mum's Astra estate, the front passenger's side wheelarch lip is badly scratched (we're talking about gone to bare metal here, and it looks like it's starting to rust...).

Is there any way I can just spray that part of the wing, or does the whole wing need to be resprayed?

It's metallic red by the way.

You could spray a small area then blend it in with rubbing compound but it would be obvious with a metalc I should have thought.

Saying that, We sprayed part of the wing on a cav which was dark red metalic, then blended it in and it didn't look bad at all. Not everyone has my skill tho

The colour on her car is basically that dark metallic red.

Do you think it would cost a lot to get that wing resprayed?

Generally its about £100 per panel, I don't think a spray shop will do just part of a metallic panel as it will look arse.

£100 for a wing? D'oh!

Sod that, I'll just buy a can of paint from Halfords and do it myself!

Thats how much my mates have been quoted in the past, but that was for mobile guys to come to your house and do it. I would have thought it would be a touch less at a spray shop.

Oh right. How do mobile people do it then, they put up a tent around your car or something?

Yeah but the thing is there's nothing wrong with the panel that's on the car, it's just been scraped, no dents or anything?

Also does the panel just bolt on or does it need to be welded?

Oh right.

If I were to spray the panel myself, would I have to strip the whole panel back to bare metal, or just the bit that needs doing (the lip)? Then I take it just primer, paint, and lacquer (as it's metallic)?

I think you'd rub it down until the point where its smooth, not neccaserily the bare metal

The only thing I've ever sprayed was a scuttle panel, and that was plastic!
