okay most have you guys have said they are flat and powerless?
are they in anyway lively?(think about it comparing to other standard cars in its league not your 2.0 16valvers etc)
do they really hate hills that much?
would they KEEP UP with a 106 1.1 if they were pushed hard?
some people say they're better once you've hit 50 mph?

Take them for what they are. A small engined run around. They dont come with cheap insurance and runniong costs for nothing. They'll get you from A-B with no problems, and only use a bit of fuel while your doing it.
As a car, there good, its just that there slow. There not very good at anyspeed, and dont expect much to happen in fifth at over 50... or in any gear actually .

the engine is from a completley different era.... its only got something like 45BHP.
compared to 1.0 of today it's a good 10-20BHP down.
the engine itself though although it's really slow, it's bloody reliable ..... i know of a 1.2 (MattyBs) which has 124 000 miles on the clock, and still seems to be pulling strong, no blue smoke.

would the 1.4 spi be much more to insure if so how much in % roughly?
lot of people say the 1.4 is much better and mpi is just too dear to insure
how easy would a 1.4 ecotec engine be to fit in the future to say a 1.2 or 1.4 merit or ls etc?

i agree with everything that has been said above. I mean your all right, the c12nz was designed as a little round town run above, never a nippy hot hatch-The SRi/GSi were brought in for that. owever, the 1.2 does what it was designed for very well IMO, but gearing lets it down big time.
I've driven a 1.2 8v with a F13CR (close ration box from 1.4 16v) and i tell ya what, there is massive difference in performance, compared to my long ratio box.
Dispite this, my 1.2 8v (now with std airbox and 14"s) is more than happy to pull to 70 (redline in 3rd), and then cruise at 85 without any probs (as m4tt can vouch), which for a car that originally cost £5400 brand new 10 years ago, aint bad.
Another very good statement above is that u dont go out and buy a 1.2 8v for performance. U buy it for cheap insurance and running costs, and maybe do the bodywork on it......not to cane away from the lights etc. Unfortunately for people like me living in london, it was my only option, and i've still got another 6 months before my insurance drops enuff to let me get summat remotely fast (Sport/GSi etc).
Oh and the answer to ur final question Fordxr3...........the 1.4 16v motor will drop straight into the 1.2/1.4 8v bay. Slight mods needed to engine mount, and new rad perhaps.

1.4 will drop in easy, but iv nevree seen the point of doing this conversion unless you have major bodymods. Just swap it for a sport with a 1.4, and get all the leccy gear and better interior and brakes with it

yup, my ex had a 1.0 16v Micra an I was absolutely nailing mine to keep up with her an she said she was driving normally. It's a weak engine, but in all fairness very reliable!!

weak engine, lmfao!!!! however i wouldn't call a 1.0 micra quick, or nippy, the engines aren't weak though!!

the 1.2 8v is a town car, any open roads and its fuked basically.
1.4 8v hi-torq, is great for round town with all the torq low down, but again out on the open road it's a pile of ballix (i had one for 2 years)

i got 115 out of my 1.2 8v revving at 6000 rpm on flat ground i dotn think that is too bad. whether or not its just my car i dont know but i had over a 1.1 micra, 1.2 clio, even a 1.7td astravan (that one was close) its a slow car compared to most, before my corsa my company car was an MG ZR 160 so you can tell how it feels to have a need to go faster. God Bless the Corsa..........and all who choose to ride in her!

Its slow as jack, cant be tuned. But is very relaible and gives excellent economy.
Has NO chance against a 1.1 106.
I had 114 on the digi dash in my 1.2i nova down a huge hill will massive run up!
